VOP Model Interview: Shayna

Here’s our interview with VOP model Shayna!  She’s also one of the long-time VOP models, and also got started by shooting with Chris.  Check out her shots below, and find out why she’s a pineapple!

How long have you been modeling?
3 years or so

How’d you get started modeling?
Chris actually asked me to do it. I had never modeled before he suggested it to me, and I decided to take him up on the offer. It was a lot of fun, so I just kept at it!

What’s your favorite thing about being a model?
Sometimes it feels like you get to pretend to be somebody different than yourself. It’s exciting and challenging for me to be put in different scenarios where you really have to think and act “outside the box”.

Who or what is your inspiration as a model?
Art. Definitely art. I see the photos as works of art in themselves, and I feel honored to be a part of it.

What’s the best advice you received as a model?
Posing is one of the more difficult things for me. So when someone told me the more angles I can make with my body the more interesting the photo will turn out. And also the more uncomfortable you are in a pose the better it usually looks!

When you’re not modeling, what do you like to do?
I’m a gamer. I play all kinds of video games. I also love to read. I have enough books to start my own library!

When did you first work with Chris of VOP?
My very first photoshoot! I think it was about April of 2006.

What’s it like behind the scenes during the VOP show?
Hectic. It’s almost chaotic, but I’d say its an organized chaos. Everyone is rushing around getting changed and helping other models in between. We all get along well and are willing to lend a hand to anyone at a moment’s notice.

What’s your favorite thing about being in a fashion show?
I love working with such talented people. The designers are incredibly creative and the stylists and MUA’s always seem to impress me!

Does this year’s charity (the American Diabetes Association) fit into your life at all?
Both of my grandparents are diabetic. I also almost lost a friend to it a couple years ago and now Chris has been diagnosed with it. Luckily once diagnosed it can be controlled, but it is still scary.

Do you have any fundraising tips?
Ask everyone you know! And use the internet to your advantage if you can.

If you could be a fruit, what fruit would you be and why?
Hmm… a pineapple. You have to get through the rough exterior to get to the sweetness inside, and I think that is a good representation of my personality. I’m often pretty shy at first, and once you get past that it’s worth it!
