VOP Model Interview: Kaylee
Here’s our interview with VOP Model Kaylee… the red-haired beauty in a few of the pics from the auction night
Rawr! Here are Kaylee’s answers to our questions, followed by some pics!
How long have you been modeling?
I did my first photo shoot 5 years ago and realized that I enjoyed it so I did modeling for fun in my spare time for awhile. Recently I’ve decided that I’d like to get more serious about it and I’ve been working on putting together a more diverse portfolio.
How’d you get started modeling?
Well I got into acting first and never really considered being a model until I was contacted by a photographer on MySpace who said I had a great look and asked if I’d ever modeled before. I liked his work so I set up a shoot with him and had a really great time. It was then that I discovered that I loved being in front of a camera, whether it be for acting or modeling.
What’s your favorite thing about being a model?
Getting to play dress up! The reason I love acting so much is because you get to be so many different people and I enjoy bringing characters to life. Modeling to me is just another form of acting. You’ve got to create a character and an emotion and instead of capturing it on film, you need to capture it in a photo. My favorite types of shoots are character driven. I love extreme makeup, locations, wardrobe, and lighting. I’m not the type of model that likes to wear a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and stand in front of a camera. Messy up my hair and makeup, put me in a huge poofy dress and throw me in the mud. I want to be and do something different in every shoot.
Who or what is your inspiration as a model?
Well first of all, I’m inspired by all the amazing people I’ve gotten to work with so far who have helped me become better and better with each shoot. I’ve learned something new at every photo shoot. But I also view myself as an inspiration. I think it’s important to not only inspire others but to be able to inspire yourself.
What’s the best advice you received as a model?
The mirror is your best friend! Looking in a mirror helps you see what you look like in certain poses and while making certain facial expressions. Knowing your body and your best angles will help you get much better shots once you’re in front of the camera. Also, pay attention to your eyes. Learn how to convey emotions through just your eyes. Having “dead” or blank eyes can ruin a picture but if you learn how to bring your eyes to life….you can bring a picture to life.
When you’re not modeling, what do you like to do?
Well obviously I enjoy acting, haha. I’ve also recently been getting into stunt work. I’d like to learn how to do stunts for TV and movies. I just really enjoy all aspects of performing.
When did you first work with Chris of VOP?
In 2006. I did my first photo shoot ever in 2004 and then stayed consistently busy with acting for the next two years so I put modeling aside for the time being. When I got some free time again, Chris was one of the first photogs to contact me to set up a shoot. We worked really well together and got some great shots so when he contacted me about the 2007 VOP show I was definitely interested in taking part in it.
What’s it like behind the scenes during the VOP show?
Crazy! Lol. It’s pretty hectic once the show starts, everyone is running around throwing clothes on and off and trying to touch up hair and makeup before going onstage. It’s fun though. I always have a good time.
What’s your favorite thing about being in a fashion show?
Well being on stage with tons of people taking your picture is definitely fun! I also enjoy all the different outfits and designs I get to wear. I’ve gotten to wear designs from all over the world.
